Tampa Prep Senior Class & Staff Deliver 100+ Hot Meals to Seniors and Homebound on Terrapin Day of Service

News

TAMPA, FL, Thursday, February 18, 2016 – Students from the senior class and staff from Tampa Preparatory School will deliver 10 routes, totaling over 100 meals, to Tampa’s senior and homebound neighbors for the School’s annual day of giving back, Terrapin Day, on Thursday, February 18.

Students from the senior class will spend the day volunteering at Meals On Wheels, as well as The Sweetwater Organic Farm and St. Peter Claver School. Seniors taking part in Meals On Wheels will deliver over 100 meals around the Tampa Bay area. After the 10 routes are delivered, students will spend time learning about the Meals On Wheels mission and helping put together Volunteer Orientation Packs.

Tampa Preparatory School’s mission is “to live a higher purpose than self.” This is accomplished by allowing students the opportunity to volunteer in their community on Terrapin Day of Service. For the past nine years, the school has also been a partner to Meals On Wheels of Tampa as an Adopt-A-Route partner, which means their staff and students take turns delivering the same route, every week.

“We are so excited to have the students from Tampa Prep assist in meal delivery- it just makes our recipients day! They love seeing the kids when they open their front door, and of course their smiling faces!” said Jan Costello, Recipient Coordinator. For many on the program, the Meals On Wheels volunteer is the only person the recipients may interact with all day.
