Meals On Wheels of Tampa, like many other organizations, are closed for regular holidays. Recipients receive a frozen meal a few days before the actual holiday so they have a meal on hand on the holiday we do not deliver.

While most of our clients have the option to get cold meals delivered for use during those days, we often get calls asking about volunteer opportunities, as well as hot meal delivery.

If you’re looking for a fun volunteer opportunity for your family over the holidays, here are a few options:

Thanksgiving Day Delivery

Although the recipient has already received their Thanksgiving day meal, we ask volunteers to deliver a special gift of handmade cards, sweet treats, and gift bags.

Holiday Gift Bags

Each December, Meals On Wheels Tampa, with the support of this community, deliver a holiday gift bag to each of the over 850 homebound, elderly and disabled recipients on our program. The bags will be filled with nonperishable food items, toiletries, books, puzzles and miscellaneous household and personal items.

For many of our 900 recipients, this will be the only holiday celebration they will have. Many do not have family or friends near and are unable to travel to visit loved ones. This is our way of showing our senior and homebound neighbors that they are thought of and cared for, above and beyond their daily meal. Like food for the body, human contact nourishes the soul. Imagine the joy and happiness this gift provides to the lives of those who are isolated and alone for the holidays.

While these are special holiday programs, we’re always in need of volunteers to deliver meals throughout the year. You can sign up to deliver meals quickly and easily on our website and you can deliver as often as you’d like! If you, or a loved one, are in need of regular meals, you can sign up online as well.
