Meals On Wheels of Tampa, like many other organizations, are closed for regular holidays. Recipients receive a frozen meal a few days before the actual holiday so they have a meal on hand on the day we do not deliver.

While most of our clients have the option to get cold meals delivered for use during those days, we often get calls asking about volunteer opportunities, as well as hot meal delivery.

If you’re looking for a volunteer opportunity for you and/or your family over the holidays, here are a few options:

Thanksgiving Day Delivery

Every Thanksgiving morning, volunteers drivers are given the opportunity to deliver an individual sized pies, handmade cards and other items to more than 800 homebound seniors and disabled. Most of these elderly neighbors will spend the holiday alone, in their home. Volunteering to deliver a special gift to our recipients on this holiday morning is a great opportunity to help your community with friends or families. Children are welcome too! Many of our supporters have made the Thanksgiving Morning Delivery a part of their own family tradition.

Volunteers will deliver individual pies packages on Thanksgiving morning between 9:30am-11am.

*All volunteers must complete an application and attend an orientation prior to delivering.

Holiday Gift Bags

Each December, Meals On Wheels Tampa, with the support of this community, delivers a holiday gift bag to each of the over 800 homebound, elderly and disabled recipients on our program.  Each holiday bag is filled with a variety of items, such as: books, games, toiletries, calendars, socks, ornaments, healthy snacks and a special gift.

For many of the recipients we serve, this will be the only holiday celebration they will have. Many do not have family or friends near and are unable to travel to visit loved ones. This is our way of showing our senior and homebound neighbors that they are thought of and cared for, above and beyond their daily meal. Like food for the body, human contact nourishes the soul. Imagine the joy and happiness this gift provides to the lives of those who are isolated and alone for the holidays.

Volunteers will deliver the Holiday Bags on the 3rd Saturday in December.

*All volunteers must complete an application and attend an orientation prior to delivering.

These gift bags are made possible by the many donations received from the community.  Please help us collect items for the gifts bags this holiday season.  Donations for the gift bags may be dropped off at Meals On Wheels of Tampa’s office, 5320 North Boulevard, Tampa, FL 33603.  Volunteer drivers can give contributions to their truck driver or site supervisor at any of the MOWTampa pick-up sites.  If you would like to place a festive collection box at your place of business, please call (813) 238-8410.

While these holiday programs are important, we’re always in need of volunteers to deliver meals throughout the year. You can sign up to deliver meals quickly and easily and you can deliver as your schedule allows.

If you, or a loved one, are in need of regular meals, you can sign up online as well.
