Meals On Wheels Volunteers Pack & Deliver Flowers, Baked Goods, and More to 700 Homebound on Wednesday and Thanksgiving Morning

News

TAMPA, FL (November 23, 2016) – Meals On Wheels of Tampa (MOWTampa) volunteers will pack over 700 bags for recipients on Wednesday, November 25th for delivery on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 26th.  Bags contain homemade cards from local schools and groups, cookies from non-profit High Hopes in High Heels, homemade pies from nonprofit Creative Kids Count, pie from the Grand Hyatt, decorated bags from Tampa Prep School and Primavera School, and flowers from Random Acts of Flowers. Volunteers from Suncoast and community volunteers will spend the morning together at Meals On Wheels packing bags to be delivered to our senior and homebound neighbors.

Over 100 community members and families will volunteer their time, vehicle, and gas to deliver these bags filled with homemade cards, fresh baked goods, and flowers to homebound neighbors on the morning of Thanksgiving.  Volunteers will pick up items from MOWTampa between 9:30-10:30am. Routes will take volunteers about an hour to complete.

The goal of this mission is to let the homebound members of Tampa know they are loved and thought about during the holiday season, and not forgotten.  For most of the recipients this might be the only person they see over the 4-day holiday weekend.

This mission could not have been fulfilled without the hundreds of volunteers who have come together.  All Thanksgiving goodies have been collected and contributed by this community, with dozens of contributions from schools and many faith based organizations. A special thank you to Random Acts of Flowers for providing bud vases for each recipient.

“We appreciate the generosity and support from our community to help fill the gift bags,” stated Steve King, Executive Director, “a value can not be placed on the difference one small act of kindness will make in our recipients holidays.”

MOW encourages neighbors to help neighbors this holiday season and not to forget the hidden faces of our homebound.  Stop in and say hello, you may be the only person they see today.
